Thanks for the tips. I have a 5-string bass, and though it's a little different, you gave me some ideas.

First time I've visited this site (first foray into shred after 30+ years playing too), looks great but it always helps me to have a sound file, any plans for this?

Right on Guitarsnake! I've heard this album and it was very good. One of my friends said it has a similar "restraint feel" to my new CD. If you like one you will probably like both.

Hi Tommaso,

I've spent the last year studying classical notation and theory after having had a very basic understanding of it.

Guitar is an instrument that is popular among the tab crowd, because many books on classical theory explained that there are often multiple places where you can play a specific passage of music on the instrument, but there is one that is more efficient than the others. Tabs help reduce the tedious task of figuring this out.

Also, guitar is an instrument that is difficult to write for unless you actually play it. Some classical composers (non-guitarists) struggled with writing passages that were practicable for guitar players that were radically inappropriate

I think any system that you can use daily is best. The benefits of learning standard notation is the ability to write for many musicians and learning how multiple layers intertwine into single musical experience. It also helped my play guitar more tastefully by using its abilities more fully.
